Collection: Ceramics, Sake & Tableware

This is the largest part of the storehouse: sake cups and flasks, tea bowls and cups, vases and plates from kilns across Japan. A guinomi is a small cup for sake, a tokkuri the flask it is poured from; a yunomi is an everyday teacup, a chawan the bowl for whisked tea. Regional wares each have a look, among them the ash glazes of Shigaraki, the rough clay of Bizen, the soft pink of Hagi, the iron-brown of Mashiko and the gold of Kutani. Some pieces are by potters designated Living National Treasures, and we say so only when the signed box or a printed reference supports it. Each listing gives the size, the material, what is included, such as a signed box or cloth, and the condition as we found it. We source in Japan from auctions and dealers and describe what we can see; when a piece has already sold, its page stays as a record and points you to similar pieces that are still available.
