Ito Hokuto Guinomi Sake Cup with Fish Design, Signed Wood Box and Booklet

A guinomi sake cup by Ito Hokuto, decorated with a fish design. It comes with its original signed wood box (tomobako) and an accompanying booklet (shiori).

Ito Hokuto is a Japanese ceramic artist born in 1961 in Nakano, Tokyo. He entered the crafts department of Tokyo University of the Arts, where he was drawn to ceramics after encountering the vivid color techniques of his professor, Living National Treasure Fujimoto Yoshimichi. After completing graduate studies in ceramics at the same university, he became a live-in disciple (uchi-deshi) of Fujimoto Yoshimichi. Following his master's death, he built his own kiln in Hino City, Tokyo, and began his independent career. He developed a distinctive technique called 'yukoku iroe kingin-sai' (carved-glaze polychrome enamel with gold and silver decoration), and is a full member of the Japan Kogei Association (Nihon Kogeikai); one of his works exhibited at the 66th Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition was purchased by the Imperial Household Agency.
