Moriyoshi Saeki Mashiko Ware Zogan Inlay Tree Motif Flattened Jar Hentsubo w/ Box

A flattened jar (hentsubo) of Mashiko ware by Moriyoshi Saeki, decorated with a tree/forest motif executed in the zogan (inlay) technique. Comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako).

Moriyoshi Saeki is a ceramic artist born in 1949 in Utsunomiya, son of sculptor Rusuo Saeki, who established his kiln in Haga, Tochigi Prefecture in 1981. He studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts, completing graduate studies in ceramics in 1977, where his 'Kakiotoshi Fuyo-mon' large plate was acquired by the university's museum. A regular member of the Japan Kogei Association (Nihon Kogeikai) since 1980 and a standing director of the Japan Ceramic Art Association, he is known for his distinctive 'zogan' (inlay) technique used in works such as flattened jar forms decorated with tree/forest motifs. His works have received notable recognition, including the acquisition of his 'Zogan Yusai Jurin-mon Hentsubo' by the Imperial Household Agency in 2002, and he has won prizes at exhibitions such as the Issuikai Ceramic Art Exhibition and the New Works Ceramic Art Exhibition. He also served as a part-time lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts from 1987 to 2001.
