A single-stem flower vase (ichirinzashi) in aged bronze (kodo) by the Yamagata metalcraft artisan Hasegawa Gazan. Yamagata cast metalwork is a traditional craft of Yamagata Prefecture. The piece has a plump, softly rounded cylindrical form and a distinctive mottled reddish-purple finish known as murashido, created by applying heat to the copper.
The wooden box bears an ink inscription reading "kodo kabin" (aged bronze vase). Copper vessels have natural antibacterial properties, which helps keep water fresh and cut flowers lasting longer. Its simple, modern silhouette suits both traditional Japanese rooms and contemporary Western interiors.
