Hanging scroll (kakejiku) by Toyoaki Hanji (1907-1992), depicting a seascape with rocks and sea birds, painted in color in the Nihonga (Japanese painting) tradition. Toyoaki was born in Toyama Prefecture and studied under the leading Nihonga master Yasuda Yukihiko around 1935. He exhibited repeatedly at the Inten exhibitions, receiving the Bijutsuin Taikan Prize and being recommended as an Inten associate, and later based himself in Kyoto where he produced works including the fusuma paintings at Daitoku-ji.

Dimensions: Mounting including scroll ends approx. 57 x 150 cm; painting itself approx. 37 x 55 cm

Condition: There is staining, discoloration, and creasing. The mounting shows damage.
