A creative (sosaku) kokeshi wooden doll by Murakami Kenichi. Substantial and weighty in the hand, with delicate and beautifully executed carving.
Murakami Kenichi was a Japanese sosaku (creative) kokeshi artist based in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture. He was known for kokeshi that emphasized simple, unadorned lathe lines with minimal coloring, often reflecting snow-themed motifs inspired by the deep snows of the Yonezawa region. He held solo exhibitions, including at a gallery in the Ginza Matsuzakaya department store in Tokyo. His works are noted among kokeshi collectors. He has since passed away.
