Silver-Glazed Chawan Tea Bowl by Hideaki Numano, Hand-Pinched Vessel with Kyo-Box

Silver-glazed tea bowl (chawan) by Hideaki Numano. The piece features an outstanding cracked-like surface texture combined with hand-pinched (tebineri) forming, which can also be enjoyed as a flower vessel.

Hideaki Numano is a Japanese ceramic artist born in Fukushima Prefecture and raised in Saitama Prefecture. He studied ceramics at the Bunka Gakuin College of Art's ceramics department, and was drawn to pottery after being impressed by works from artists in the Kasama ceramics region. After graduating, he trained in glaze techniques at the Kasama Ceramic Research Institute (Kasama Yogyo Shidojo) and subsequently studied under the potter Hiroshi Komazawa in Kasama. He became an independent artist in 2001 and continues to work in the Kasama pottery area, one of Japan's noted ceramic-producing regions. His pieces are sold through Mashiko-area pottery galleries such as Toko Gallery.
