A Japanese sencha tea water kettle (ginbin) made by Shuhodo, with a hammered tsuchime texture and a smoked-silver (ibushi) finish. The body is built on a base metal and finished with a silver-neri (ginneri) process, in which silver is fused onto the surface by heat and repeated layering, then sulfurized to create a deep, dark ibushi tone.
- Maker: Shuhodo
- Subject / Motif: Hammered tsuchime surface texture
- Technique: Silver-neri (ginneri) finish with smoked-silver (ibushi) treatment, sulfurized for a deep dark tone
- Material: Base metal finished with silver; rattan-wrapped handle
- Signature / Seal / Box: Impressed mark on the base; paper box inscribed "Yuwakashi Jogin-neri shiage" (superior silver-neri finish)
- Included: Paper box
- Condition: A tea tool that has seen actual use. The interior retains its original beautiful silver color with no rust or prominent white limescale deposits, remaining very clean for a used tea tool. The base shows age and use from direct-flame heating, including scorching and darkening. The exterior ibushi silver finish and the rattan-wrapped handle are in relatively good condition. Please refer to the photos for the item's current appearance and condition.
The hammered tsuchime texture softens the reflection of light for a subdued, refined appearance, while the handle is carefully wrapped in rattan to insulate against heat and provide a secure grip.
