Shido Shozan Sosaku Kokeshi Yukinko Snow Child Wooden Doll Showa Vintage

A creative (sosaku) kokeshi wooden doll titled "Yukinko" (Snow Child) by Shido Shozan. This piece reflects the artist's distinctive approach to sosaku kokeshi, which departed from traditional regional styles.

Shido Shozan ("\u5fd7\u85e4\u5c1a\u5c71") was a Japanese kokeshi artist born in 1932 (Showa 7) in Oita Prefecture, who relocated to Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture in 1959 (Showa 34). He became known as a sosaku kokeshi (creative kokeshi) maker, developing distinctive techniques and incorporating new materials into his work, which was distinct from traditional regional kokeshi styles. His pieces, such as "Yukinko," "Yamabuki," and "Yukiguni no Warabe," received numerous awards, including the Japan Prime Minister's Award at the National Kokeshi Contest. He passed away in 1996 (Heisei 8).
