A porcelain flower vase by Ono Hakuko in a green tone, with a slender neck and rounded lower body. Ono Hakuko (1925–1996) was a Japanese ceramic artist born in Aichi Prefecture, the daughter of potter Ono Kozan, founder of the Kozan kiln in Saga Prefecture. She later worked in her father's kiln's design studio, doing decoration and design work. Inspired by the work of Living National Treasure Kato Hajime, she independently studied and mastered the technique of yuri-kinsai (underglaze gold decoration), overcoming repeated failures. Her yuri-kinsai works won numerous awards, including first place at the Kyushu-Yamaguchi Ceramics Exhibition in 1970, and she became a member of the Japan Kogei Association in 1973. In 1992 she was designated a holder of Saga Prefecture's Important Intangible Cultural Property for yuri-kinsai ceramic techniques.
