A hanging scroll (kakejiku) by the Japanese-style painter Nishibori Tosui, depicting Kusunoki Masashige and his son (Nanko father and son), a celebrated subject in Japanese historical painting. Nishibori Tosui (1886-1963), born in Kyoto, graduated from the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts and studied under Taniguchi Kokyo and Kikuchi Keigetsu. He was known as a Japanese-style painter who specialized in historical paintings and was active in the Kyoto art world of his time.
Dimensions: Mounting including roller ends approx. 56 x 208 cm; painting itself approx. 37 x 116 cm.
