An authentic small-format woodblock print by Inoue Yasuji (1864-1889), an ukiyo-e artist active in the Meiji era. This is the plate "Shinagawa Oki" (Off Shinagawa) from his celebrated series Tokyo Shinga Meisho Zukai, depicting a Tokyo landscape that still carries traces of Japan's rapid modernization.

The work employs the kosen-ga (light-ray) technique inherited from his master Kobayashi Kiyochika, and the delicate gradations (bokashi) of sky and sea are especially striking. It shows a three-masted Western-style sailing vessel fitted with a funnel, a state-of-the-art steam screw sail ship of the period. The series is held in museum collections including the Edo-Tokyo Museum, among others, and is valued as historical material.

Condition: As an artwork over 130 years old, there is age-related discoloration and creasing of the paper. Recommended for those who appreciate the character of antique and vintage items and collect retro Edo and Meiji art.
