A woodblock print titled "Makurabashi" from the series Tokyo Shinga Meisho Zukai by the Meiji-era ukiyo-e artist Inoue Yasuji. Inoue Yasuji was a pupil of Kobayashi Kiyochika, celebrated for his rendering of light and shadow, and is highly regarded as a successor of the kosen-ga (light-ray picture) style that lyrically depicted the scenery of early Meiji Tokyo.

This work depicts a view from near Makurabashi bridge on the Kitajukken River in present-day Sumida Ward, Tokyo, looking toward Sensoji Temple and its five-storied pagoda across the Sumida River. The soft coloring, suggestive of an evening scene, beautifully captures the atmospheric riverside mood of the period. It is a koban-size nishiki-e.

Condition: As an antique, there is fading, staining, creasing, and edge wear due to age. Recommended for those who appreciate the patina of period items, ukiyo-e collectors, and lovers of antique art.
