A full set of Japanese samurai armor (yoroi) made by Marutake Kobo, a maker known for producing armor and helmets used in films, NHK Taiga dramas, and worn by Shohei Ohtani. This is a wearable-focused model, reinforced at fragile points such as the shoulder fittings so it can be worn at shrines and festivals. Large rounded rivet stars are set along each plate, with an elegant maedate crest and boldly flared fukigaeshi showing graceful curves and rich decoration. The design belongs to the transitional period from domaru to tosei gusoku, combining a weighty presence with a more practical, functional form modeled on the armor worn by officer-class samurai.
The helmet, cuirass, and chain sections are all iron; the kuwagata, maedate, and decorative fittings are gilt brass; the armor stand and armor chest are wood. The helmet fitting and lacing connections were all made by hand. This armor was made over 20 years ago.
