A Takatori ware (Takatori-yaki) flower vase by Kamei Rakuzan. It is accompanied by its original signed wooden box (tomobako) and cloth wrapper (tomogire).
Kamei Rakuzan, born in 1945 (Showa 20) in Fukuoka Prefecture, real name Kamei Hiroshi, is a potter working in the Takatori ware tradition. He is the younger brother of the 14th-generation Takatori-yaki head potter Kamei Miraku, and was born into the main Takatori kiln lineage. He began training in pottery under his brother from around age 16. From 1962 he began exhibiting at the Fukuoka Prefecture Art Exhibition, winning selection every year, and received awards including a Merit Prize in 1964, the Fukuoka City Mayor's Award in 1972, and the Governor's Award in 1975. He currently maintains his own kiln in Ishigama, Sawara-ku, Fukuoka City, separate from the main Miraku-gama lineage.
