A tako-hiki sashimi knife (tako-hiki) forged by a Showa-era blacksmith from aoko (blue steel), with a water buffalo horn ferrule. The tako-hiki is a type of Japanese knife with a narrow, elongated blade and a straight cutting edge used for drawing cuts on sashimi.

  • Technique: Forged aoko (blue steel)
  • Material: Water buffalo horn ferrule (hon-suigyu-guchi)
  • Dimensions: 300 mm
  • Signature / Seal / Box: Bears a maker's stamp, but the signature and place of origin are unknown
  • Condition: New and unused, long-term warehouse storage item. There are slight oil stains and rust associated with storage. Please refer to the photos for the item's current appearance and condition.

The tako-hiki is well suited for slicing fish thinly and evenly, as in usuzukuri, leaving a clean cut surface that helps preserve freshness, and is also convenient for removing fish skin.
