A set of two artisan-made wooden kokeshi depicting Daruma Daishi (Bodhidharma). Unlike the common rounded daruma, these have a distinctive elongated form. Carved from natural wood, they show a beautiful grain along with carefully rendered sharp eyes and textured beard, giving each figure a powerful expression. Displayed side by side in large and small sizes, they suggest a parent-and-child or married-couple pairing and make a striking accent for an entryway, Japanese-style room, or living space.
Condition: There is natural change in the wood color due to age, giving a fine antique-style character. No large cracks or conspicuous damage are seen. This is a vintage Showa-era item with signs of scratches, dirt, and use.
