A natural finishing whetstone from Kyoto with a hard grain and excellent finishing performance. The surface is firm and well-compacted, giving a smooth and stable feel while sharpening. It produces very little slurry, which allows good bite on the steel: black sharpening residue appears soon after starting, delivering strong polishing power. Despite its hardness, the edge is easy to control for efficient refinement.
The finish carries a bright, refined haze, and with further polishing can be brought to a near-mirror gloss. It tightens the steel to achieve a keen, smooth edge. It works well not only for kitchen knives but also as a finishing stone for Western and Japanese razors, offering a sharp edge and smooth shaving feel. This is a thin stone, so mounting it on a wooden base or using a stone holder is recommended for stable, comfortable use.
