A document box (bunko / fumibako) finished in Echizen-nuri lacquer, presented in a deep black lacquer surface. Echizen lacquerware is a historic craft produced around Sabae in Fukui Prefecture, known for its durable, lustrous finish and refined elegance. Rooted in a tradition dating back to the Kofun period, it is made through a division of labor by skilled artisans covering woodwork, lacquering, and decoration such as maki-e and chinkin, among other techniques.
This piece can be used for a wide range of purposes as a storage container or small keepsake box.
