He graduated from the sculpture program at Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences in 1972, and after training in glaze research at the Nagoya Institute of Technology's testing laboratory, began his own pottery practice in 1973. He specializes in neriage, a technique of blending different colored clays to create intricate geometric and pictorial patterns. In 2010 he was officially designated a holder of Seto City's Intangible Cultural Property for Neriage Ceramic Art, succeeding the legacy established by his father.
